Why did it get this rating?

This show was self-rated by Netflix. You can find out more about self-rating by streaming providers here.

Self-harm and mental health

The series highlights different types of mental health struggles.

Struggling with anxiety, a character uses a lighter to burn her thigh. Later in the episode, she suffers from a panic attack, struggling to breathe, but ends up confiding in her father about the self-harm. She later gets into a boiling hot bath. The character attends a therapy session and talks about how she has been burning herself since she was 12 years old. This may be upsetting for viewers who have struggled or know someone who has struggled with anxiety and self-harmed.

Another character suffers from depression and teachers suggest that a child has anxiety.

Violence

There are flashbacks of verbal and physical abuse towards a woman. A character smothers another with a pillow and someone is shot off-screen. Injuries and altercations aren’t shown in the detail. Flash backs are also brief.

Sexual themes

Teenagers engage in sexual activities. Nothing is shown in detail, but heavy breathing and suggestive movement makes it clear what is happening.

Offensive language

There is frequent use of words such as “sh*t”, “B*tches” and d*ck”. There are also a lot of insults shared between characters, such as “p*ssy” and “a**hole”.
