Season 2 follows Rue and the breakdown of her family relationships as she relapses. It explores the toxic relationships of those around her, including cycles of emotional abuse and betrayal between friends and lovers, as characters face the very real consequences of their destructive choices.

Sexual Violence

A character’s sexually explicit images and videos are uploaded and circulated online, without her consent. She experiences victim blaming and is called a ‘tease’. There are verbal references to paedophilia and child sexual abuse.

Suicide references

A character imagines shooting himself, shown with blood detail. There are undetailed verbal references to suicide.

Sex scenes and nudity

There are several sex scenes with breast, buttock and genital nudity, including erect penises. Oral sex and masturbation is shown. There are references to pornography found on a laptop, ‘deep throating’,  a ‘gangbang’, discussions on orgasms , cunnilingus, and with two characters practicing the latter using their hands.

Drug Use

Drug use behaviours are shown frequently in a negative light. Characters snort powder, inject heroin, and smoke marijuana. A character nearly overdoses but uses another drug to prevent this. Teenagers are shown drinking too much at a party. A child deals drugs on behalf of their guardian. Teenage girls are forced to remove their clothing during a drug deal.

A father verbally abuses his sons when drunk, calling one a mistake, and another an ‘asshole’.  An addict in withdrawal behaves threateningly and violently toward their loved ones. 

Violence

A character is stabbed and his nose and mouth covered, shown bleeding and dying from being unable to breathe. The scene is prolonged. A character is shot with bloody detail. Characters are beaten and some are struck with hammers and bottles at a party. A shootout involving police results in bloodshed. A woman is threatened with a gun to her head.

Offensive language

‘C**t’, ‘motherf**ker’, ‘f*ck’, 'c*cksucker', the N-word and ‘sh*t’, ‘whore’, ‘bitch’, 'dick', 'asshole', are used in both casual and sometimes aggressive or insulting contexts.
