Content that may disturb

The series has frequent and detailed discussion around JonBenét’s murder. Because her cause of death is not certain, there are different theories around the method and weapons used – including a baseball bat, a flashlight and a garrote. Autopsy images are shown of JonBenét which are extremely distressing. Crime scene photos are also unsettling.

Child sexual violence themes

Police investigations revealed possible signs of sexual assault during an examination of JonBenét’s body.

There are references to child pornography. Police searched JonBenét’s families' computers for images and videos during their investigation. There was a theory that JonBenét was being exploited for child pornography that was later ruled out.

There is discussion around JonBenét being sexualised because she was a pageant beauty queen, and she wore makeup and costumes. On a mock trial which was shown on a television talk show, when analysing home tapes of Ramsey, a woman claiming to be an ‘expert’ falsely claims she masturbates with a saxophone and goes on to claim the clip is ofd a ‘child being sexually stimulated.” The series makes it clear these claims are obviously inaccurate, with Ramsey’s mother calling them “sickening.”

Helplines:

The sexual violence themes could be upsetting for some viewers, especially for those who have gone through similar experiences. If you are struggling with what you have seen on-screen please reach out for help. If you or someone you know needs to talk:
