What’s it about?

The Sound of Music follows Maria, a free-spirited aspiring nun sent to be the governess for the seven children of stern widower Captain von Trapp. Through music, warmth, and kindness, she wins over the children – and eventually the Captain – just as the threat of Nazi occupation looms over Austria.

Scary scenes

Near the end, a family is chased by Nazi soldiers. Though no one is hurt, these moments could still feel intense for younger viewers.

A character has a gun pointed at them, but the situation ends quickly and they are unharmed.

During a musical scene, loud thunder and lightening frightens a group of children, which may also scare young viewers.

Adult scenes

The Nazi flag appears prominently in two scenes, and there are shots of Nazi soldiers marching.

‘Heil Hitler’ is said a couple of times.
