Suicide references

Anyone affected by suicide will likely be impacted by this major theme in the film which is gently handled, alongside themes of intergenerational trauma and the healing power of art.

There are several references to a character’s death by suicide, throughout the film. Multiple characters process and seek to understand the flow-on effect. One family member is processing the suicide of his mother when he was a child by making a film that heavily references the event. There is discussion about the event, how and where it took place as characters retrace steps through the family home. We see the filmmaking scene gently being acted in the lead up to the suicide by hanging but we don’t see this act performed. It is a healing moment for several characters.

There are also subtle references to a living family member having attempted to suicide but no further detail is shared.
