The documentary contains depictions of overfishing, bottom trawling, and the mass killing and wastage of marine animals. We see many fish slowly dying as they gasp for oxygen. These scenes are broken up my motivational and positive messages about good things that are happening in the world of marine conservation.

A central theme involves fish being the primary source of billions of people around the world. Scenes that show people who rely on food reeling in their nets with not enough food to feed their families may be upsetting for some viewers.

The scenes where commercial fishing boats ravage the ocean floor killing millions of fish, accompanied by intense and suspenseful sound effects, may upset some younger viewers.
