Sad themes

This film deals with sickness, death, separation from a parent and grief. The main character, Bea, loses her loving mother and her father then ends up in the hospital. This could be upsetting for tamariki who have experienced loss in their whānau.

Violence

This film contains a few scenes with very mild violence, including:

  • A character shoves another onto the ground
  • A character shoves into another’s face
  • Vines grab a character and pull them through a wall
  • A character is nearly burned by a blast of fire from a dragon
  • Soldiers fight with swords
  • A character is knocked off a balcony into a pool

Scary scenes

Some very young children might be worried seeing a character coming out of a child’s closet after another character sneaks in to try and get him out. This scene is a bit intense, and his size may be frightening, even though he turns out to be very friendly.
