Censor for a Day
Twice a year the Office runs a programme for schools called Censor for a Day. It takes place towards the end of the first and third terms. Each programme rotates between different regional locations.
Invitations for schools to participate in Censor for a Day are sent out a few months before each event. If you would like to receive an invitation contact us to make sure we have the most up-to-date contact details for your school.
The proposed (but not confirmed) programme for the year is:
2010 1st Term: Christchurch, Dunedin, Wellington.
2010 3rd Term: Tauranga/Rotorua, Hamilton, Wellington.
How do I get my students a place at the event?

The Classification Office runs a limited programme and seats fill up fast, so we encourage you to respond quickly when the invitation emails are sent out.
What happens at Censor for a Day?
The event takes senior high school students through the process of classifying a film. The Chief Censor gives a brief introduction to the Films, Videos, and Publications Classification Act 1993, then the students watch a pre-release film. Following a brief morning tea, students work through a modified consideration sheet, which mimics the process used by the Office to classify publications. The day finishes with a discussion and questions.
In Term 3 of 2009 Censor for a Day was held in Wellington, Napier, New Plymouth, Wanganui and Palmerston North; participating students were shown the film Jennifer's Body.
